Karongi on 3rd-4th March, 2020: Today, IPRC Karongi hosts provincial selection process towards National Skills Competition 2020 themed “Empower and Inspire Rwandan Youth to pursue personal and economic fulfillment through the power of skills”.
The Competition aims at instilling excellence and competition culture among TVET students and TVET schools as well as exposing the Rwandan youth to a variety of skilled careers and equipping them with the tools and resources they need to build a better future just to name few.
Eligible candidates for the National Skills Competition are only trainees below the age of 30 years and who are still in Education & training life cycle from different TVET schools, Polytechnics, Higher Learning Institutions, trainees at workplace and other accredited training providers.
Trainees competitors who have managed to participate to the provincial selection process in the Western Province are from IPRC Karongi, IPRC Karongi, ETO Gatumba, Muganza TVET and Rubengera TVET.
At National level, the Competition at will cover 14 trades from which competitors at the Western Province selection process pursue 10 trades specifically Cooking, Electrical wiring, Bricklaying, Restaurant Services, Carpentry, Automotive Technology, Welding, Wall and Floor Tiling, Digital Challenge and Plumbing & Heating.
This National Skills Competition precedes World Skills Africa 2020 competition that will take place in Namibia from 25th to 31st October 2020, therefore having a national competition targets to get potential competitors to represent Rwanda at the international level.
Apart from trainees’ practical competitions, National Skills Competition will also feature the TVET symposium, a platform through which different experts and international speakers will discuss different themes with the main purposes of sharing best practices and lesson learnt around the Promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
Important dates for 2020 National Skills Competition: 3rd-4th March, 2020: Selection at Provincial level to take place at IPRCs; 9th-20th March, 2020: Coaching of candidates for National Skills Competition and preparations of tasks; 24th March, 2020: Opening ceremony at IPRC Kigali; 25th-27th March 2020: National Skills Competition to take place at IPRC Kigali; 27th March, 2020: TVET Symposium and closing ceremony at Serena Hotel.
